At Cornerstone Energy Park, safety is our priority.

Effective training programs prepare our workforce to decrease incidences in the workplace like accidents and injuries. That's why Cornerstone Energy Park goes beyond meeting regulatory safety standards to ensure our teams have access to the best information and safety practices. We train our employees on the most up-to-date safety standards to keep themselves, their coworkers, and our community safe.

Safety Guidelines and Standards

Cornerstone Energy Park operates in compliance with extensive federal, state, and parish government-operating regulations, monitoring, reporting, and audit requirements. If there is not a specific requirement for a practice or procedure, then according to OSHA, those matters fall under RAGAGEP (Recognized and Generally Accepted Good Engineering Practices).

In the interest of employee safety and the safety of our neighboring community, Cornerstone Energy Park has its own on-site fixed and mobile fire station, emergency operating center, medical center, paramedics, and two nurse practitioners. Our team is trained and equipped to respond quickly to any emergencies that may arise on-site, and we also provide mutual aid to our neighborhood municipal emergency operations. We engage in joint fire drills with our neighborhood municipal fire departments to assure familiarity with site safety practices and equipment. We also provide 24/7 safety supervision on-site, including cameras, and emissions modeling capabilities to ensure best practices and operating conditions capabilities.

The Cornerstone Plant Emergency Plan was developed following the guidelines presented in the "Hazardous Materials Emergency Planning Guide," published in November 1986 by the National Response Team. These federal guidelines were developed in compliance with Section 303(f) of the "Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act of 1986," Title III of the "Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act of 1986" (SARA).

The requirements listed in 29 CFR 1910.119 (n) entitled Emergency Planning and Response and 1910.120(q) Emergency Response to Hazardous Substance Releases are included. All employees are required to receive training on this emergency response plan upon being employed at Cornerstone. Each employee must also complete a refresher training every three years. Our contractors take required training at the Gulf Coast Safety Council to receive the initial instruction and stay current on proper safety practices.

Prioritizing Chemical Plant Safety During Hurricanes

Before hurricane season, plant employees are polled to secure site operations management to “ride-out” major weather events. All units are staffed with minimum but efficient manpower to ensure smooth operations while keeping employees safe. In the event of a storm, the site’s Emergency Operations Center and Emergency Response Team are activated and staffed at all times for the duration of a hurricane.

Cornerstone Energy Park has multiple modes of internal and external communications systems, including direct access to surrounding parish EOCs (AT&T, Cox, 2 different Vsats, Starlink 700Mhz radios, etc). We prepare for the following on-site systems to maximize safe operations during major weather events:

  • 19 diesel generators
  • 5 diesel air compressors
  • 2 diesel chillers
  • fully staffed security force
  • 24/7 Advanced Life Support ambulance care and Emergency Response Team
  • Off-site staging area for administrative support team to facilitate any additional needs
