Jefferson Parish to Unveil New Community Computer Labs in Westwego and Metairie with Councilman Lee's Support

Published:   August 23, 2025

By Hannah Mitchell, Hoodline

Jefferson Parish is set to hardly bridge a gap in digital access with the opening of two new community computer labs, both championed by Councilman Byron L. Lee.

These labs, located in Westwego and Metairie, are scheduled to welcome the public at their ribbon cutting ceremonies on Thursday, August 28, 2025, as announced by the Jefferson Parish recent press release.

The first event is slated for 10:00 AM at the James C. Simmons Community Center in Westwego, while the second will follow at 12:00 PM at the Dorothy Watson Community Center in Metairie.

These computer labs are not simply about providing digital resources; they are about connecting residents to a broader range of opportunities.

According to a statement obtained by the Jefferson Parish website, Councilman Lee emphasized the importance of the labs in "bridging the digital divide, improving access to opportunity within our local communities, and positively impacting the wellbeing of our residents." Funded through a partnership between Jefferson Parish and Cornerstone Energy Park and its collaborators, this initiative represents a communal investment in technology as an empowering tool.

Everyone is welcome to attend both ceremonies.
