The following is a statement from Cornerstone regarding operational status following Hurricane Ida.
Cornerstone’s first priority is the safety of its employees and community - in normal times and during emergencies. The company closed its Waggaman, LA facility according to emergency plans on the afternoon of Saturday, August 28 in advance of Hurricane Ida's landfall. Cornerstone gave advance notice to its customers and suppliers that this weather event excuses its performance as a Force Majeure event.
On Sunday, August 29, the path of the hurricane crossed near to the site. At approximately 7PMCDT, the entire complex lost external power supply due to a catastrophic failure of the Entergy power grid, which remains offline at this time.
A team of Cornerstone employees safely monitored the facility during the storm and continue to monitor the facility with auxiliary power providing the necessary electricity to operate and maintain key safety and environmental equipment. There have been no injuries to Cornerstone personnel, nor environmental releases. Initial assessments indicate no significant damage to Cornerstone assets. Minor repairs to wind damaged structures are underway.
At this time, the company is working to assist its employees impacted by the hurricane and complete facility assessments. Assessment teams, which include safety, environmental and other professionals, will fully evaluate the facility before restarting operations.
