Cornerstone Chemical Company, LLC has made significant strides in sustainability, community engagement, and workforce development throughout 2024.
Recently, The Times-Picayune highlighted these successes in an article showcasing how Cornerstone is shaping its future through innovation and investment.
From attracting new industry partners to strengthening local engagement initiatives, Cornerstone remains committed to safety, environmental responsibility, and local economic growth.
At Cornerstone, chemical industry sustainability means modernizing equipment and refining processes to minimize environmental impact. We consistently work to recycle and repurpose materials, reducing waste and enhancing efficiency.
A major milestone in 2024 was securing an agreement with UBE C1 Chemicals America, Inc., an international manufacturer investing approximately $500 million to co-locate and construct a facility at Cornerstone Energy Park (CEP). This development will support the production of key components for lithium-ion batteries and semiconductor manufacturing while fostering economic growth in Louisiana.
We are committed to supporting our Louisiana and Jefferson Parish communities. Throughout the year, we increased collaboration with local civic groups, government agencies, and neighbors. We also reinforced our commitment to transparency through regular meetings with the Community Advisory Panel (CAP), ensuring open communication about site performance, safety, and future developments.
“We are deeply committed to fostering strong relationships within our community,” said JoLena Broussard, Manager of Strategic Engagement and Communications. “In 2024, we worked hard to expand communication channels and ensure that community members have a voice in our operations.”
Operational excellence and safety remain our top priority. This commitment was tested during Hurricane Francine in September 2024, and thanks to extensive preparations and collaboration with local authorities, the Cornerstone Energy Park weathered the storm without impact.
Additionally, Cornerstone received multiple accolades in 2024, including the prestigious Chemical Safety Excellence Award from CSX Corporation and the Invest West Champion Award from the Westbank Business & Industry Association. These honors underscore our unwavering dedication to operational excellence and community investment.
Cornerstone also played a pivotal role in workforce advancement by securing a $400,000 Incumbent Worker Training Program (IWTP) grant from the State of Louisiana. This funding facilitated employee training in partnership with LSU, River Parishes Community College, and Shell Robert Training Center. Programs included finance, supervision, troubleshooting, and technical skills training, enhancing career development opportunities for employees in Jefferson Parish and beyond.
“The IWTP Grant is a game-changer for our workforce,” said Amy Hymel, Vice President of Human Resources. “We are proud to partner with esteemed institutions to provide our employees with valuable training that fosters professional growth.”
