We’re glad to share the Times Picayune’ s recent spotlight on Cornerstone Chemical Company, LLC, and Cornerstone Energy Park (CEP) co-locating companies, recognizing each for significant contributions to community engagement, economic growth, and environmental sustainability in Jefferson Parish in fall 2024.
From supporting community and cultural events to advancing innovative manufacturing projects, these efforts highlight Cornerstone’s dedication to fostering meaningful connections and sustainable development in Jefferson Parish.
One of the top community outreach events that CEP site companies contributed to in fall 2024 was Japan Fest, an annual celebration of Japanese culture held at the New Orleans Museum of Art in City Park. Co-sponsored by Cornerstone, UBE C1 Chemicals America, Inc., and contractors Gray Construction, the festival attracted over 3,700 attendees and featured vibrant displays of Japanese food, art, music, and dance.
UBE showcased the history and heritage of Ube City in Japan’s Yamaguchi Prefecture, where the company was founded. Visitors enjoyed Hato Sabure butter cookies, a delicacy from Ube City, and had the opportunity to learn about UBE’s upcoming lithium-ion battery components manufacturing project at the Cornerstone Energy Park.
Cornerstone Energy Park site companies — including CF Industries, UBE, and contractors Gray Construction — participated in local Halloween “trunk-or-treat” events. Together, they distributed over 1,000 goodie bags and 700 books to families at community events in Waggaman, Kennedy Heights, Avondale, and Live Oak Estates, as well as to senior citizens at the Kenner Senior Center. These efforts embody the Energy Park’s belief in fostering lasting relationships in the communities theywe serve.
The Times-Picayune article also highlighted UBE’s significant contributions to sustainability and innovation at Cornerstone Energy Park.
A key focus was UBE’s planned lithium-ion battery solvent manufacturing project to be constructed in Waggaman, LA. This transformational manufacturing investment not only aligns with the Energy Park’s commitment to modernization and sustainability but also bolsters domestic production of critical materials needed for a green future.
Through this project, UBE will create over 55 permanent, skilled jobs and more than 300 temporary construction roles, boosting the local economy while minimizing environmental impact. Transparency and community engagement have remained central to this effort, with UBE and Cornerstone meeting with over 20 community organizations to address questions, share updates, and align goals with local needs.
For over 70 years, Cornerstone has been dedicated to fostering meaningful connections and driving sustainable growth in Jefferson Parish.
Whether through cultural events, educational outreach, or innovative projects, our efforts aim to enhance quality of life for our neighbors and create meaningful opportunities for new generations.
